This term we are going to study the words of possible the most famous sermon ever preached. At times the instructions are simple and make obvious sense. On reflection many seem a standard impossible to attain. Unlike the first listeners, we have already heard the sermon multiple times. Yet as followers of Jesus this short but dense account of his teaching remains amongst the most challenging of anything he says.
Our prayer is that this term we will together listen well to the words of Jesus and, “put them into practice” (7:24). May we all be “blessed ones” (Mtt 5) as his words become not merely familiar to us, but increasingly foundational in shaping how we live for him in response to who he is and what he has done for us.
