See the Son: Matthew 13 - 17

Having looked at Ephesians and Revelation 1-3 in terms 3 and 4 last year, we are beginning 2025 in a gospel, as we look at chapters 13 to 17 of Matthew. The series is called ‘Seeing the Son,’ and our aim is to see Jesus more clearly, and respond to him with our whole lives.

Our Sunday gatherings where we worship God together are our most important time, as we meet with the whole community of Calderwood Valley Baptist Church.

But our Home Groups are a close second! This is where we can be known more fully and supported in prayer by a smaller group of our brothers and sisters in Christ on a weekly basis. This is also where we can interact with God’s word in further depth and grow in our faith.

We want to see everyone presented fully mature in Christ (Col.1:28).

Our hope and prayer is that we will see the Son more clearly, as we are reminded of his teaching and his powerful miracles, and observe the varied responses to his ministry and his call to repentance and faith. In this way, we will all grow in our trust in him as our Saviour, and submit more fully to his Lordship.

Ephesians: New Life in Christ

What does the future hold for us?

Are our best days behind us or in front of us?

What is most important for us to focus on now?

How can we relate well to the diversity of people in our church?

What should we do if we feel discouraged?

As both WBC and CVBC enter the next chapters in our churches’ lives, some (or all) of these questions may be swirling through our hearts and minds. That is why we’re turning our attention to the book of Ephesians for the rest of the term. In this marvelous book, the Apostle Paul sets out to answer these questions for his readers
by drawing our attention to God’s cosmic plan to exalt his son Jesus: by rescuing and gathering a people for himself, knitting them together as a family, and transforming them into a “dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit” (Eph 2:22).

We will see that this new life in Christ is what charts our course forward as a church.
